There are two approaches that may be taken with breast cancer according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The first approach would be to practice prevention by observing symptoms of imbalance within the body. For example, breast tenderness and fibrocystic breast disease along with moodiness, feelings of frustration and chronic tension headaches are indications that the body is stagnant. Cancer cells proliferate within an environment of stagnation as the healthy cells lack oxygen. Using acupuncture and herbs, we can stimulate blood flow, oxygenate the cells and re-establish the function of the organs in order to remove stagnation.
The second approach would be to support a woman who has undergone conventional Western treatment for cancer. Acupuncture has been found to alleviate nausea after chemotherapy and there are many Chinese herbs that can depress cancer cells and boost the immune system.
There are many different and unique reasons why any one individual experiences disease symptoms. It is important to be evaluated by a TCM practitioner in order to determine the best treatment for you. The best cure for illness is prevention!
